Would you like the opportunity to draw and paint from a live model every week for a fraction of the cost of hiring a private model?
Open Studio Sessions
The Art Guild of Louisiana hosts open-studio life drawing sessions every Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The sessions are available to adult members and non-members for a fee of $15.00 per session (payable at the door before each session via cash/check).
There’s no preregistration … just show up at the Studio in the Park, 2490 Silverest Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 (just off Old Hammond Highway at Cedarcrest Park).
Description
Life drawing improves observation skills, develops eye-hand coordination and helps break the habit of over-thinking, all of which train the artist to make strong confident strokes/lines.
Each session begins with fifteen 1-minute gesture drawings, followed by longer poses ranging from 5 to 50 minutes. The first Wednesday of the month begins with the usual gesture poses, and is followed by two long poses (divided into 25-minute segments). Both long-pose sessions give artists an opportunity to develop more finished drawings, if desired.
Although charcoal and graphite are the most popular media, artists also work in pastels, ink, water media, and oils.
